Per g Salicylic acid 60 mg, benzoic acid 120 mg
Indications/Uses
Athlete's foot, ringworm & tinea versicolor.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Clean the affected & surrounding areas of the skin w/ mild soap then rinse thoroughly w/ water & pat try. Apply a thin layer & rub gently onto affected area of the skin bid for at least 4 wk. Athlete's foot between the toes Apply to affected skin between & around the toes. A warm or burning sensation lasting 3-5 min may be felt after application.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to salicylic acid or benzoic acid. Diabetics & patients w/ impaired or poor circulation. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <2 yr.
Special Precautions
Avoid contact w/ eyes, nose, mouth & other mucous membranes. Do not use for prolonged periods, in high conc, over large areas of the body or on broken or inflamed skin. Discontinue use & consult physician if burning sensation lasts for >10 days, & condition worsens or does not improve w/in 4 wk. Avoid wearing tight footwear; wear clean socks & change it everyday.
Adverse Reactions
Salicylic acid: Local irritation, skin inflammation, signs of salicylate toxicity (eg, thirst, tinnitus, loss of hearing, headache, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, depression & disorientation) & allergic reactions including itchy rash, anaphylaxis & erythema multiforme. Benzoic acid: Irritation, itchy rash & allergic reactions.
Drug Interactions
Salicylic acid: May lead to salicylate toxicity w/ topical & oral salicylates (eg, methyl salicylate-containing products, aspirin). May increase clinical effect of other topical medicines (eg, corticosteroids) by increasing drug penetration into skin. May increase toxicity of acetazolamide, anticoagulants, dipyridamole, heparin, MTX, moxalactam, & hypoglycemics (eg, chlorpropamide, glibenclamide, glimepiride). May decrease efficacy of bumetanide, captopril, probenecid.
