May exaggerate succinylcholine-type muscle relaxation during anesth. May have vagotonic effects on heart rate (eg, bradycardia) which may be particularly important to patients w/ sick sinus syndrome or other supraventricular cardiac conduction conditions eg, SA or AV block. Reports of syncope & seizures; consider possibility of heart block or long sinusal pauses when investigating. Diarrhea, nausea, & vomiting which appear more frequently w/ 10-mg daily dose than 5-mg daily dose. Closely monitor patients for symptoms of active or occult GI bleeding, especially those at increased risk of developing ulcers eg, those w/ history of ulcer disease or receiving concurrent NSAIDs. May cause bladder outflow obstruction. Potential to cause generalized convulsions; to exacerbate or induce extrapyramidal symptoms. Caution in patients w/ history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease. Avoid concomitant use w/ other inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase, agonists or antagonists of cholinergic system. No data in patients w/ severe hepatic impairment. Caution in nursing mothers. Not recommended in childn.
