Anagrelide HCl
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. Initially 0.5 mg/day for 1 wk & increased wkly by 0.5 mg/day until desired therapeutic effect is achieved. Administer total daily dose bid (every 12 hr) or tid (every 8 hr). Max: 5 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Lactose intolerance; grade 4 or 3 CV diseases, severe renal (CrCl <30 mL/min) or liver (AST or ALT >5 times normal) disease. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ CV, renal or liver diseases. Hypotension & dizziness w/ high single dose (5 mg) & small & reversible BP decrease following single doses of 2 mg. Control hematological (eg, hematocrit & leukocyte count), renal & liver parameters in regular intervals during treatment. Childn <16 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, palpitations, diarrhea, weakness, edema, nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, pain, dyspnea, flatulence, vomiting, fever, rash, chest pain, anorexia, tachycardia, pharyngitis, malaise, cough, paresthesia, back pain, pruritus, dyspepsia. Flu & flu-like symptoms, dehydration. Heart failure, MI, cardiomyopathy, heart block, atrial fibrillation, cerebrovascular events, pericarditis; pulmonary infiltrates, fibrosis & HTN; pancreatitis, GI ulcers, seizures.
