Indications/Uses
Management of chronic asthma, allergic rhinitis, & as prophylaxis for exercise-induced asthma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn 6-14 yr One 5-mg chewable tab once daily at bedtime. Childn 2-5 yr One 4-mg chewable tab once daily at bedtime.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ hepatic impairment or cirrhosis.
Special Precautions
Not indicated for use in acute asthma attacks. Should not be used as monotherapy for the treatment & management of exercise-induced bronchospasm. Use during pregnancy & lactation only if considered clearly essential. Safety & effectiveness have not been established in childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, dry mouth, thirst; hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis, angioedema & skin reactions; asthenia, dizziness, irritability, restlessness, headache, sleep disorders (insomnia, drowsiness, nightmares); URTI, fever, arthralgia, myalgia.
Drug Interactions
Ensure appropriate clinical monitoring when co-administered w/ potent CYP450 inducers eg, phenobarb or rifampicin.
