Tamsulosin HCl
Dosage/Direction for Use
0.4 mg once daily. May increase to 0.8 mg once daily after 2-4 wk if patient fail to respond.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take 30 min following the same meal each day.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Allergy to sulfa. Risk of syncope. Evaluate for the presence of carcinoma of the prostate prior to start of therapy. Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome during cataract surgery. Do not use in combination w/ strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (eg, ketoconazole), strong CYP2D6 inhibitors (eg, paroxetine) & other α-adrenergic blocking agents. Caution in concomitant w/ cimetidine & warfarin. Priapism. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Not indicated for use in women & childn.
Adverse Reactions
Orthostasis (postural hypotension, dizziness & vertigo). Rarely, priapism.
Drug Interactions
Decreased clearance & increased AUC w/ cimetidine. Increased Cmax & AUC w/ strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (eg, ketoconazole) & strong CYP2D6 inhibitors (eg, paroxetine). Caution in concomitant w/ warfarin. Not to be used in combination w/ other α-adrenergic blocking agents.
