Description
Iron + Folic Acid (Sangobion BABY+) is a dark brown viscous solution with a fruity odor.
Iron + Folic Acid (Sangobion BABY+) contains essential active ingredients needed mainly in hematopoiesis during the growth period.

Indications/Uses
Iron + Folic Acid (Sangobion BABY+) is for the supplementation of iron and folic acid for anemia during growth period.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Give once a day or as prescribed by the physician.
<6 Months: as prescribed by the physician.
6-12 Months: 0.8 mL orally using the dropper provided.
12-24 Months: 1 mL orally using the dropper provided.
Shake well before use.
What to do if the patient misses a dose: If the patient forgot to take Iron + Folic Acid (Sangobion BABY+), the patient should not make up for it by doubling the next dose. Simply take the next dose at the usual time.
What to do when the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage: If more than the recommended dose has been given, consult a physician immediately.
Overdosage
Iron overdose is an acute emergency requiring urgent medical attention. Initial symptoms include vomiting, vomiting blood, diarrhea, abdominal pain, irritability and drowsiness. Later, very low blood pressure (shock), fever, bleeding, liver impairment and seizure can develop.
If overdose is suspected, treatment should be implemented immediately in a medical facility.
Contraindications
Patient should not take this medicine if the patient has any known allergies or hypersensitivity to any component of this product. Patient should not take this medicine if the patient is receiving repeated blood transfusions or suffering from anemias not caused by iron deficiency. If in doubt, consult a physician.

Special Precautions
Before taking the oral drops, ensure that it was stored in a cool dry place, not exceeding 30°C. The packaging should not be severely damaged at the time of purchase as there might be danger of product degradation or exposure to contaminants. It is recommended to take Iron + Folic Acid (Sangobion BABY+) after meals to minimize the effects of gastrointestinal irritation. Take Iron + Folic Acid (Sangobion BABY+) only as recommended or as supervised by a physician.
When should the patient consult a doctor: At the first sign of any adverse drug reaction (ADR), patient must seek medical attention immediately.
Adverse Reactions
As with any iron supplement, symptoms may include those due to gastrointestinal irritation like abdominal pain/cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation. Occasional rusty aftertaste may be experienced by some individuals. Allergy symptoms which include pruritus or itchiness, urticaria or hives, difficulty of breathing, chest pain.
Expect blackening of the stools while taking Iron + Folic Acid (Sangobion BABY+). This is due to the iron content of the product.
Drug Interactions
Iron is known to decrease the antibiotic action of Tetracyclines and Quinolones. In addition, iron may decrease the absorption of the following medications: Levodopa (a drug used to treat Parkinson's disease); Levothyroxine which is used to treat hypothyroidism; Bisphosphonates (used for treatment of osteoporosis and other bone diseases); Methyldopa (an antihypertensive); Penicillamine (used for the treatment of Wilson's disease and rheumatoid arthritis). Taking iron preparations such as that of Iron + Folic Acid (Sangobion BABY+) and the previously mentioned medicines should be spaced by at least 2 hours.
Absorption of iron may be reduced in the presence of the following: Antacids and proton pump inhibitors which reduce stomach acidity.
Some food (e.g. wholegrain cereals, eggs and milk).
Oral neomycin (broad-spectrum antibiotic).
Calcium, zinc and oral magnesium salts.
Bicarbonates, carbonates, oxalates, or phosphates, by the formulation of insoluble complexes.
Storage
Iron + Folic Acid (Sangobion BABY+) should be stored at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
