Montelukast Na
Indications/Uses
Management of chronic asthma. Relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Prophylaxis & chronic treatment of asthma. Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥15 yr Two 5-mg tab daily or one 10-mg tab daily. Childn 6-14 yr 5 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Not indicated for treatment of acute asthma attacks including status asthmaticus. Avoid concomitant use w/ aspirin or NSAIDs in patients w/ known aspirin sensitivity. Monitor neuropsychiatric events. Eosinophilic conditions may occur. Pregnancy & lactation. Infants <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
URTI, fever, headache, pharyngitis, cough, abdominal pain, diarrhea, otitis media, flu, rhinorrhea, sinusitis, & otitis.
Drug Interactions
Aspirin or other NSAIDs. Decreased AUC w/ phenobarb. Concomitant use w/ potent CYP450 enzyme inducers eg, phenytoin, rifampicin.
