Contents
Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate (equiv to elemental Fe 60 mg) 300 mg, folic acid 250 mcg
Indications/Uses
Prevention of Fe-deficiency anemia & as prenatal hematinic.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take before or during meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Fe salts should not be given to patients receiving repeated blood transfusions or w/ anemias not produced by Fe deficiency.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ Fe-shortage or Fe-absorption diseases, hemoglobinopathies, GI disease. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dark discoloration of faeces; GI irritation & abdominal pain, nausea & vomiting, diarrhea or constipation.
Drug Interactions
Fe: Not to be administered concomitantly w/ parenteral Fe. May impair absorption w/ compd containing Ca- & Mg- including antacids & mineral supplements & bicarbonates, carbonates, oxalates/phosphates. Decreased absorption w/ Zn salts & tetracyclines. Delayed response to Fe w/ systemic chloramphenicol.
