Mycophenolate mofetil
Indications/Uses
Prevention of graft rejection. Various diseases w/ an autoimmune or immune-mediated inflammatory components.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Acute renal graft rejection 1 g bid. Prophylaxis of cardiac graft 1.5 g bid.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to mycophenolate mofetil or mycophenolic acid. Women of childbearing potential not using highly effective contraceptive methods & w/o pregnancy test result. Pregnancy & breastfeeding.
Special Precautions
Moderate influence on the ability to drive & use machines. Patients w/ severe renal impairment or active disorders of GIT.
Adverse Reactions
Asthenia, fever, pain, headache, anaemia, thrombocytopenia, renal tubular necrosis, hematuria, hyperglycaemia, disturbances of electrolytes & blood lipids, peripheral oedema, dyspnoea, cough, acne, dizziness, insomnia, tremor. Hypersensitivity reactions.
Drug Interactions
May compete w/ other drugs that undergo active renal tubular secretion, resulting in increased conc of mycophenolate mofetil or the concomitant drug. Reduced absorption w/ antacids or cholestyramine.
