Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 5 mg once daily. Max: 10 mg once daily. Small, fragile, elderly or patient w/ hepatic insufficiency Initial dose: 2.5 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to dihydropyridine derivatives. Severe hypotension, shock (including cardiogenic shock), obstruction of the outflow tract of left ventricle (eg, high grade aortic stenosis), hemodynamically unstable heart failure after acute MI.
Special Precautions
Allergies. History of heart & liver disease. Limit intake of alcohol. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Fatigue or tiredness; headache; insomnia; vivid or abnormal dreams; flushing; abdominal pain; nausea, diarrhea or constipation; increased or difficulty in urination.
Drug Interactions
Limit dose of simvastatin in patients on amlodipine 20 mg. Risk of increased tacrolimus blood levels. Monitor ciclosporin levels & reduce dose in renal transplant patients. Increased bioavailability w/ grapefruit or grapefruit juice; risk of hyperkalemia in patients susceptible to malignant hyperthermia.
