Indications/Uses
Acts as neuroprotective, promotes myelination in neurons. Relieves burning sensation, numbness, & loss of sensation & muscle cramps in diabetic neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy. Drug-induced neuropathy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take before meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Driving or working w/ machines. Doing other dangerous activities. Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment if patients develop severe angioedema. W/draw treatment gradually over at least 1 wk. May cause peripheral edema. Regular vision check is recommended. May decrease platelet count & prolong resp rate interval. Safety & effectiveness in paed patients have not been established.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, drowsiness, visual disturbance (including blurred vision, diplopia), ataxia, dysarthria, tremor, lethargy, memory impairment, euphoria, wt gain, constipation, dry mouth, peripheral edema, depression, confusion, agitation, hallucinations, myoclonus, hypoaesthesia, hyperaesthesia, tachycardia, excessive salivation, sweating, flushing, rash, muscle cramp, myalgia, arthralgia, urinary incontinence, dysuria, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, 1st-degree heart block, hypotension, HTN, pancreatitis, dysphagia, oliguria, rhabdomyolysis.
Drug Interactions
CNS effects may be increased w/ oxycodone, lorazepam & ethanol.
