This medicine contains Ascorbic acid/Sodium Ascorbate or Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that is necessary for normal growth and development. This vitamin is required for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of the body. The body does not store nor does it manufacture Vitamin C on its own, therefore it needs to be replenished on a daily basis. It is necessary to form collagen - an important protein used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Vitamin C is essential for wound healing and for the repair and maintenance of cartilages, bones, and teeth.
Vitamin C is also one of the many antioxidants - nutrients that block some of the damage caused by free radicals (byproducts of metabolism). The build-up of these toxic byproducts over time is responsible for the aging process and can contribute to the development of various diseases. Antioxidants also help reduce the damage to the body caused by toxic chemicals and pollutants such as cigarette smoke, food preservatives, etc. Vitamin C is also a co-factor in many biological processes especially in the synthesis of lipids and proteins, iron metabolism, resistance to infection, and in cellular respiration.
