Diphtheria toxoid >20 IU; tetanus toxoid >40 IU; Bordetella pertussis antigens: Pertussis toxoid 25 mcg, filamentous haemagglutinin 25 mcg; inactivated poliovirus: Type 1 (Mahoney) 29 D-antigen units, type 2 (MEF-1) 7 D-antigen units, type 3 (Saukett) 26 D-antigen units; HIB polysaccharide 10 mcg, conjugated w/ tetanus protein 18-30 mcg
Indications/Uses
Helps protect child from the age of 2 mth against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, poliomyelitis & against invasive infections caused by HIB bacteria (eg, meningitis, blood infection).
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM 2 inj w/ interval of 2 mth, 1 at the age of 2 mth & 1 at the age of 4 mth, followed by a booster inj at the age of 11 mth. Alternatively, 3 inj at interval of 1-2 mth from age of 2 mth, followed by a booster inj w/in 2nd yr of life.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to vaccine, glutaraldehyde, neomycin, streptomycin, or polymyxin B, or to a pertussis vaccine (acellular or whole cell). Child who has had allergic reaction after a previous inj of the same vaccine or a vaccine containing the same substances; encephalopathy w/in 7 days of a previous dose of a whole-cell or acellular pertussis vaccine. Child who has progressive encephalopathy. Postpone vaccination in child who has a fever or an acute illness.
Special Precautions
Do not inj intravascularly. Does not protect against invasive diseases caused by serotypes other than HIB, nor against meningitis of other origins. Fainting can occur following or even before an inj. Child who has blood disorders eg, thrombocytopenia or clotting disorders; any medical problems or allergies; experienced oedematous reactions of the lower limbs following inj of a vaccine containing HIB valence; weakened immune defenses. Child who has had fever ≥40°C w/in 48 hr, w/o any other identifiable cause; collapse or state suggesting a state of shock w/ episode of hypotonia-hyporesponsiveness w/in 48 hr of vaccination; persistent, inconsolable crying for ≥3 hr, occurring w/in 48 hr after vaccination; convulsions w/ or w/o fever, occurring w/in 3 days after vaccination; Guillain-Barré syndrome or brachial plexus neuropathy after inj of vaccine containing tetanus toxoid. Monitor temp w/in 48 hr of vaccination & give regular treatment to reduce fever in child who has ever had seizures w/ fever not related to a previous vaccine inj. +ve result for HIB infection may be observed in a urine test 1-2 wk after vaccination. Contains phenylalanine which may be dangerous for people w/ phenylketonuria. Concomitant use w/ corticosteroids, cytotoxic medicines, RT or other treatments that may weaken the immune system.
Adverse Reactions
Loss of appetite; nervousness, irritability; abnormal crying & screaming; drowsiness; vomiting; redness, swelling or pain at inj site; fever at ≥38°C. Diarrhoea; hardening at inj site; insomnia, sleep disorders.
