Tab: Each tablet contains: Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride 25 mg, Chlorphenamine Maleate 2 mg.
Syr: Each 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) contains: Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride 12.5 mg, Chlorphenamine Maleate 1 mg.
Drops: Each mL contains: Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride 1 mg, Chlorphenamine Maleate 0.8 mg.
Combined the decongestant Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride and the antihistamine Chlorphenamine Maleate, the combination reduces the excessive nasopharyngeal secretion and diminishes inflammatory mucosal edema and congestion in the upper respiratory tract. The antihistamine action of Chlorphenamine Maleate reduces or abolishes the allergic response of nasal tissues. It is complemented by the mild vasoconstrictor action of Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride which provides a nasal decongestant effect.
Nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, sneezing and postnasal drip, common cold, sinusitis, rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis.
Tab: Adult: 1 tablet every 6 to 8 hours.
Children: 6-12 years: 1 tablet every 6 hours.
2-5 years: ½ tablet every 6 hours.
Or as prescribed by the physician.
Syrup: 7-12 years: 1 teaspoonful (5 mL).
2-6 years: ½ teaspoonful (2.5 mL).
To be taken three to four times a day or as prescribed by the physician.
Hyperthyroidism; hypertension, coronary disease, concurrent use within 2 weeks of MAOI's. Difficult urination due to prostate enlargement or bladder obstruction. Lower respiratory tract disease. Brain damage, epilepsy.
Be careful in taking PPA if the patient has the following conditions (1) high blood pressure (2) toxic goiter (3) benign prostatic hypertrophy (4) heart rate irregularity (5) if taking antidepressants. Patients with heart disease and uncontrolled/untreated high blood pressure should consult the doctor prior to taking Phenylpropanolamine.
Patients should be warned that antihistamines may enhance the sedative effect of CNS depressants including alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, analgesics, sedatives and tranquilizers. The effect of anticholinergic drugs such as atropine and tricyclic antidepressants may be enhanced by the concomitant administration of those anti-histamines possessing similar activity.
Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, epileptiform seizures (large doses); skin rashes.
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
