Contents
Paracetamol 325 mg, phenylephrine HCl 25 mg, dextromethorphan HBr 10 mg
Indications/Uses
Relief of cough, clogged nose, postnasal drip, headache, body aches & fever associated w/ the common cold, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, flu & other minor resp tract infections. Helps decongest sinus openings & passages.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 1 cap every 6 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ severe coronary disease or CV disease including MI, severe HTN & ventricular arrhythmia. Repeated administration in patients w/ anemia, cardiac, pulmonary, renal or hepatic disease.
Special Precautions
Not to be taken by patient at risk of developing resp failure (eg, those w/ chronic bronchitis, emphysema or during an asthma attack); has persistent or chronic cough (ie, cough lasting for >3 wk) or cough accompanied by excessive secretion. Severe liver damage may occur if adult or child ≥12 yr takes >4 g of paracetamol in 24 hr; takes other medicines containing paracetamol or acetaminophen; adult has ≥3 alcoholic drinks daily during treatment. Patients w/ high BP, toxic goiter, BPH, heart irregularity, glaucoma & those taking those antidepressants. Not to be used w/ any other medicine containing dextromethorphan, phenylpropanolamine or paracetamol. Concomitant use w/ warfarin. Observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness. Liver or kidney disease. Not to be used during pregnancy or lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dextromethorphan HBr: Rarely, nausea, GI discomfort, drowsiness, excitation & mental confusion. Phenylephrine HCI: Tremor, restlessness, anxiety, insomnia/sleeplessness, nervousness, increased BP, palpitation, arrhythmia, weakness, resp distress & pallor. Paracetamol: Skin rashes, hypersensitivity reactions, changes in number of WBC & platelet & minor stomach & intestinal disturbances. Dextromethorphan HBr & phenylephrine HCl: Dizziness.
Drug Interactions
Dextromethorphan HBr: Inhibited metabolism of & potentiated effect of MAO inhibitors eg, TCAs. Phenylephrine HCl: Possible increased toxicity w/ epinephrine & general anesth halothane. May result in hypertensive crisis w/ amitriptyline, imipramine, sertraline, moclobemide. Effect may be decreased w/ prior administration of phenothiazine, phentolamine, propranolol. Paracetamol: Slight increases in hypoprothrombinemic response to warfarin or coumadin. May cause severe hypothermia w/ phenothiazine. May result in increased risk of hepatotoxicity w/ INH. Paracetamol-induced liver toxicity may be increased w/ phenytoin, barbiturates, carbamazepine.
