Indications/Uses
Resp affections characterized by thick viscous hypersecretions due to acute bronchitis & its exacerbation, pulmonary emphysema, mucoviscidosis & bronchiectasis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Treatment duration: 5-10 days in acute phase. Continue for several mth in chronic phase. 600-mg granules for oral soln Adult One 600-mg sachet daily (preferably in the evening). 200-mg granules for oral soln Adult One 200-mg sachet daily. 100-mg granules for oral soln Adult Two 100-mg sachets bid-tid. Childn One 100-mg sachet bid-qid according to age.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Childn <2 yr.
Special Precautions
Asthmatic patients & patients w/ history of PUD. Preferable to avoid use during pregnancy. Discontinue breastfeeding or discontinue/abstain from therapy taking into account the benefit of breastfeeding for the child & benefit of therapy for the mother.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions including bronchospasm, angioedema, rashes & pruritus; hypotension, or occasionally HTN. Flushing, nausea & vomiting, fever, syncope, sweating, arthralgia, blurred vision, disturbances of liver functions, acidosis, convulsion, & cardiac or resp arrest.
Drug Interactions
Avoid concurrent administration w/ antitussive drugs. Concurrent administration w/ nitroglycerin has been shown to cause significant hypotension & enhance temporal artery dilation.
