Meera (Butamirate Citrate) acts directly on the brain's cough center to suppress cough. Meera (Butamirate Citrate) is safe and non-sedating which is neither chemically nor pharmacologically related to opium alkaloids. Meera (Butamirate Citrate) is rapidly & completely absorbed after oral administration. Maximum concentration is reached within 9 hours with sustained release tablet. Plasma elimination half-life of Meera (Butamirate Citrate) is about 13 hours.
Pharmacology: Butamirate Citrate belongs to the anti-cough medicines of central action. It exerts expectorant, moderate bronchodilating and anti-inflammatory action. Butamirate Citrate also increases the spirometry indexes and blood oxygenation. It is safe and non-sedating which is neither chemically nor pharmacologically related to opium alkaloids. The active metabolites of Butamirate Citrate have also antitussive action.
