Clobetasol propionate
Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment of more resistant dermatoses eg, psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis), recalcitrant eczema & other conditions which do not respond satisfactorily to less active steroids.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply sparingly to the affected area once daily or bid until improvement occurs.
Contraindications
Cutaneous infections eg, impetigo, tinea corporis & herpes simplex; infestations eg, scabies; acne vulgaris; rosacea; gravitational ulceration. Neonates.
Special Precautions
Avoid long-term continuous therapy, particularly in infants & childn, in whom adrenal suppression occurs readily. The face may exhibit atrophic changes after prolonged treatment. Avoid in pregnant women. Potential excretion in breastmilk in mothers using large amounts of the drug. Review treatment on wkly basis if used in childn. Infants' napkin might act as occlusive dressing.
Adverse Reactions
Transient pituitary adrenal suppression. Prolonged & intensive treatment: Atrophic changes eg, thinning, striae, & dilatation of superficial blood vessels, particularly when occlusive dressings are used or where skin folds are involved.
