Contents
Drospirenone 3 mg, ethinyl estradiol 20 mcg
Indications/Uses
Polycystic ovarian syndrome & to prevent pregnancy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab once daily for 21 days. Start new pack after 7-day tab-free interval.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take approx at the same time each day.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ or blood clots in blood vessels of legs, lungs & other organs; history or currently had stroke/heart attack, illness which could lead to heart attack (eg, angina pectoris) or stroke (eg, minor/temporary stroke); illness which could increase risk for artery thrombosis (eg, diabetes w/ damaged blood vessels, very high BP/fat levels in the blood); disturbance of blood clotting (eg, protein C deficiency); migraine w/ focal neurological symptoms; pancreatitis; history or currently have liver tumor; suspected breast cancer or cancer of sexual organs; unknown cause of vag bleeding. Hepatic impairment, kidney failure.
Special Precautions
Do not use the rhythm or temp method; HIV (AIDS) or any other sexually transmitted infection; breast cancer; liver/gallbladder illness, diabetes, depression, Crohn's disease/ulcerative colitis, haemolytic uremic syndrome, sickle cell disease, epilepsy, SLE, illness which appeared during pregnancy or previous use of sexual hormone (eg, hearing loss, porphyria, gestational herpes, Sydenham's chorea); patients w/ chloasma should avoid direct sunlight & UV rays; hereditary angioedema can worsen; surgery, long periods of immobilization or serious accidents during treatment may increase risk of venous thrombosis; use of any combined contraceptive may increase risk of developing venous/arterial thrombosis especially in smoking patients. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Emotional, headache, abdominal pain, acne, sore breasts, enlargement of breasts, painful/irregular menstruation, wt gain. Clots (thrombosis) in blood vessel of the leg/lungs (pulmonary embolism).
Drug Interactions
Decreased effectivity w/ medicines used in epilepsy (eg, primidone, phenytoin, barbiturates, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine), TB (eg, rifampicin), HIV (ritonavir), infectious disease (eg, griseofulvin, ampicillin, tetracyclines) & St. John's wort; decreased effectivity of ciclosporin/anticonvulsant drugs. May affect results of blood analysis.
