Description
Lagundex Tablet: Each 300 mg tablet contains: Vitex negundo L. (Fam. Verbenaceae) (Powdered Lagundi Leaves) 300 mg.
Each 600 mg tablet contains: Powdered Lagundi leaves Vitex negundo L. 600 mg (Fam. Verbenaceae).
Lagundex Syrup: Each 5 mL of syrup contains the extract from 300 mg of Lagundi (Vitex negundo L. Fam. Verbenaceae) dried leaves.
Lagundex Forte Syrup: Dark green to greenish brown homogeneous liquid.
Each 5 mL of syrup contains the extract from 600 mg of Lagundi (Vitex negundo L. Fam. Verbenaceae) dried leaves.
THE PLANT: Lagundi is erect branched shrub that grows up to 5 meters high and is found throughout the Philippine archipelago. Its leaves are green, palmate and composed of 5 leaflets which are pointed at both ends. The middle leaflets are larger than the others. It has small violet flowers (6mm) and bears tiny black succulent fruits. Lagundi is nurtured organically in environment friendly farms.
Action
FOR COUGH: Lagundi is the only extensively studied cough remedy herbal preparation in the Philippines today. The National Integrated Research Program on Medicinal Plants (NIRPROMP) has validated scientifically the ancient popular knowledge and practices of our traditional healers. They have established in both animal and human studies, the wide margin of safety and efficacy of Lagundi as a Cough Remedy.
Indications/Uses
Lagundex: For the relief of mild to moderate cough due to common colds and flu. For the relief of mild to moderate reversible bronchospasm in adults and children.
Lagundex Forte: For the relief of cough due to the common cold, flu and mild to moderate acute bronchospasm in adults and children 2 years of age and older with obstructive airway disease such as asthma and chronic bronchitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Lagundex 300 mg Tablet: Adults: 2 tablets 3-4 times a day.
Children (7 to 12 years old): 1 tablet 3-4 times a day or as prescribed by a physician.
Lagundex 600 mg Tablet: Adults: 1 tablet 3-4 times a day.
Children: 7-12 years: ½ tablet 3-4 times a day or as prescribed by a physician.
Lagundex Syrup: Adults: 10 mL (2 tsp.) 3-4 times daily.
Dose may be increased as needed.
Children: 15 mg/Kg/dose (or 0.25 mL/Kg/dose) administered 3 times daily.
2-4 yrs (10-15.5 Kg): 1/2-1 tsp. 3 times daily.
4-6 yrs (15.5-20 Kg): 1 tsp. 3 times daily.
6-12 yrs (20-40 Kg): 1 1/2-2 tsp 3 times daily.
Children over 40 Kg body weight: 2 tsp 3 times daily.
Lagundex Forte Syrup: Adult: 5 mL (1 tsp.) 3 to 4 times daily.
Dose may be increased as needed.
Children (13 years old and above): 5 mL (1 tsp.) 3 times daily. Dose may be increased as needed, as per physician's advice.
Children (2 years to 12 years old): As prescribed by the physician.
Missed dose: If the patient forgot to take this medicine, just take the next dose and the subsequent doses at the usual recommended schedule. Do not double the dose unless recommended by the doctor.
Overdosage
Lagundex Forte: Symptoms of overdose may include: agitation, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures. Stop taking the medicine and tell the doctor immediately.
Consult the doctor immediately at the first sign of overdosage and any undesirable effect or if symptoms persist.
Contraindications
Lagundex Forte: If the patient has any other allergies - this product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist for more details.
Special Precautions
Patients with allergy to Vitex negundo L. (Lagundi) plants. Safety among pregnant and lactating women has not been studied.
Lagundex Forte: Take orally with or without food. Follow the direction on the label, or take as directed by the doctor. Drink plenty of fluids when the patient uses this medication unless otherwise directed by the doctor. The fluid will help loosen the mucus in the lungs. This medication can be taken with food if stomach upset occurs.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Safety among pregnant and lactating women has not been studied.
Adverse Reactions
Lagundex Forte: Use in pregnancy & lactation: Possibility of adverse effects on pregnant and lactating women has not been studied. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea without a predominant complaint.
Side Effects
Lagundex Tablet: Only mild side effects on few patients such as itchiness, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea without a predominating complaint.
Lagundex Syrup: None reported in clinical trials.
Drug Interactions
Lagundex Forte: The amount of this product is not expected to interact with food or other medicine. However, it is best to consult a doctor before taking this medicine with other medicine.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
