Indications/Uses
Prevention & therapy of damages due to faulty or deficient protein metabolism in chronic renal insufficiency in connection w/ limited protein food of 40 g/day (for adults) & less.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult (70 kg) 4-8 tab tid as long as GFR is <25 mL/min & concomitant w/ dietary protein restricted to ≤40 g.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Do not chew tab.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypercalcaemia, disturbed amino acid metabolism.
Drug Interactions
May aggravate elevated serum Ca levels w/ Ca-containing drugs. May disturb absorption of active substances w/ drugs that form hardly soluble compd w/ Ca eg, tetracyclines, quinolones (eg, ciprofloxacin & norfloxacin) & drugs containing Fe, fluoride or estramustine. Increased risk of arrhythmia w/ cardioactive glycosides. May decrease serum phosphate levels w/ Al hydroxide.
