Prophylaxis for flu especially those who run an increased risk of associated complications.

Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/deep SC inj Adult & childn 6 mth-17 yr 0.5 mL. Childn <9 yr not previously vaccinated w/ a seasonal flu vaccine 2nd dose of 0.5 mL after an interval of at least 4 wk should be given.

Overdosage
View Influvac Tetra overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to flu virus surface antigens (inactivated), eggs (ovalbumin, chicken protein), formaldehyde, cetyltrimethylammonium Br, polysorbate 80 or gentamicin. Postpone immunization in patients w/ febrile illness or acute infection.

Special Precautions
Should not be administered intravascularly. Caution in patients w/ thrombocytopenia or any coagulation disorder since bleeding may occur following IM administration. Anxiety-related reactions, including syncope, hyperventilation or stressed-related reactions can occur following or before any vaccination as a psychogenic response to the needle inj. Insufficient Ab response in patients w/ endogenous or iatrogenic immunosuppression. Safety & efficacy have not been established in infants <6 mth of age.

Adverse Reactions
Headache; fatigue, local reaction (eg, pain). Adult & elderly: Sweating; myalgia, arthralgia; malaise, shivering, local reactions (eg, redness, swelling, ecchymosis, induration). Childn 6 mth-17 yr: Drowsiness; sweating; appetite loss; nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting; irritability/fussiness; myalgia; fever, malaise, local reactions (eg, redness, swelling, induration). Arthralgia; shivering, local reaction (eg, ecchymosis).

Drug Interactions
Immunological response may be diminished w/ immunosuppressant treatment. False +ve results in serology tests using the ELISA method.
