Contents
Live, attenuated, recombinant Japanese encephalitis virus (propagated in Vero cells)
Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis of Japanese encephalitis caused by Japanese encephalitis virus in patients ≥9 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC Primary immunization Childn ≥9 mth 0.5 mL as single dose. Booster dose Adult No need for booster dose up to 5 yr after 1st vaccination. Childn & adolescent up to 18 yr 0.5 mL 1-2 yr after 1st vaccination.
Contraindications
History of severe allergic reaction to any vaccine component or after previous administration of the vaccine or vaccine containing the same components. Postpone vaccination in case of febrile or acute disease. Congenital or acquired immune deficiency impairing cellular immunity including immunosuppressive therapies eg, chemotherapy & high-dose systemic corticosteroids given ≥14 days. Symptomatic HIV infection or asymptomatic HIV infection accompanied by impaired immune function. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Should not be administered by intravascular inj. Advisable to wait for ≥1 mth following interruption of high dose systemic corticosteroid therapy (given for ≥14 days) before carrying out vaccination.
Adverse Reactions
Malaise, inj site pain; headache; myalgia. Inj site swelling. Adults: Fatigue. Feeling hot, chills, inj site erythema, pruritus, bruising; dizziness; arthralgia; diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting; pharyngolaryngeal pain, dyspnea, rhinorrhea, cough, wheezing, nasal congestion; rash. Childn: Pyrexia, irritability, inj site tenderness, erythema; somnolence; vomiting; loss of appetite; crying.
Drug Interactions
Separate inj sites & syringes when other vaccines are concomitantly administered. Do not mix w/ any other injectable vaccines or medicinal products. Vaccination must not be performed w/in 6 wk & preferably not w/in 3 mth of inj of Ig or blood products containing Ig eg, blood or plasma. Avoid contact w/ disinfectants. Concomitant use w/ immunosuppressive or corticosteroid therapy.
