Indications/Uses
Fungal infections of the mouth, throat & gullet.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >2 yr 2.5 mL applied qid after food. Infant 4 mth-2 yr 1.25 mL (¼ measuring spoon) qid after food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to miconazole or other similar antifungal medicines. Liver impairment. Infant <4 mth or those whose swallowing reflex is not yet fully developed.
Special Precautions
For oral candidosis, dental prosthesis should be removed at night & brushed w/ gel. Should not be swallowed immediately; keep in mouth for as long as possible. Ensure that the gel does not close off the throat when giving to a child or infant. Never apply at the back of throat. If breastfeeding an infant being treated w/ Hypharin, do not apply to nipple in order to give gel to infant. Consider performing blood tests to check levels of anticoagulant or phenytoin if concomitantly taken. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, mouth discomfort, regurgitation, product tastes abnormal. Severe allergic reaction; severe skin disorder eg, TEN, SJS; light-headedness, generalized itch, wheezing or difficulty breathing.
Drug Interactions
Avoid concomitantly taking w/ anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), antiviral PIs (eg, saquinavir), anticancer agents (eg, busulfan, docetaxel, vinca alkaloids), Ca channel blockers (eg, dihydropyridines, verapamil), cyclosporin, tacrolimus, sirolimus, anti-epileptics (eg, phenytoin or carbamazepine), alfentanil, anxiolytics or tranquilizers (eg, buspirone, alprazolam, or brotizolam), midazolam IV, rifabutin, methylprednisolone, ebastine, reboxetine, sulphonylureas (eg, chlorpropamide, glibenclamide), sildenafil, trimetrexate.
