Indications/Uses
Adjunct to diet & exercise to improve glycemic control in adults w/ type 2 DM. In combination w/ metformin, sulfonylurea, or thiazolidinediones when diet & exercise + single agent do not provide adequate glycemic control.
Dosage/Direction for Use
100 mg once daily. May be given in 2 divided doses when given w/ metformin in a combination prep.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
History of a serious hypersensitivity reaction eg, anaphylaxis or angioedema & exfoliative skin conditions including SJS.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if hypersensitivity reaction, pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid is suspected. Risk of hypoglycemia in combination w/ sulfonylurea or insulin. Adjust dose in patients w/ moderate or severe renal insufficiency & patients w/ ESRD. Assess renal function before initiating treatment. Use only during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Caution when administering to a nursing woman.
Adverse Reactions
URTI, headaches, & nasopharyngitis. Hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis, angioedema, urticaria, rash, & SJS.
Drug Interactions
May slightly increase mean peak drug conc of digoxin.
