Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Childn ≥6 mth 0.5 mL single inj. Childn 6 mth to <9 yr who have not been vaccinated or have not been infected by flu Administer 2nd dose of 0.5 mL after an interval of at least 4 wk.
Contraindications
Anaphylaxis. Hypersensitivity to egg, chicken, any other chicken component. Convulsion w/in 1 yr before vaccination. Guillain-Barré syndrome w/in 6 wk from the previous flu vaccination. Neurological disorders.
Special Precautions
Individuals on immunosuppressant therapy or w/ immunodeficiency since targeted immune response may not be achieved after vaccination. Individuals planning to have a blood test during the next few days after vaccination; may result in false +ve blood test results. Not for IV inj.
Adverse Reactions
Local reactions eg, redness, swelling & pain, or systemic reactions eg, fever, rigor, headache, fatigue & vomiting. Coryza, rhinorrhoea, sore throat, pharyngitis, rhinitis; dizziness; pruritus; inj site pruritus.
Drug Interactions
Co-administration w/ other vaccines may increase adverse events. Concomitant immunosuppressive therapy or an existing immunodeficiency may affect immunization. False +ve ELISA serologic tests for HIV-1, hepatitis C, & especially HTLV-1 may occur following flu vaccination. Medicinal products to control epilepsy or paroxysmal (phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarb), theophylline, warfarin, Ig, immune inhibitory agents (corticosteroid, cyclosporine, anticancer drug, including RT) may cause interaction.
