Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment of moderate pain, especially following surgery. Short-term treatment of fever, when IV administration is clinically justified by urgent need to treat pain or hyperthermia &/or when other routes of administration are not possible.

Dosage/Direction for Use
Administer as 15-min IV infusion. Adult & childn >50 kg & no additional risk factors for hepatotoxicity 1 g (100 mL) as single dose every ≥4 hr to max 4 g daily, >50 kg w/ additional risk factors for hepatotoxicity 1 g (100 mL) as single dose every ≥4 hr to max 3 g daily, >33 to ≤50 kg 15 mg/kg (1.5 mL/kg) as single dose every ≥4 hr to max 60 mg/kg or 3 g daily (whichever is less), >10 to ≤33 kg 15 mg/kg (1.5 mL/kg) as single dose every ≥4 hr to max 60 mg/kg or 2 g daily (whichever is less), ≤10 kg 7.5 mg/kg (0.75 mL/kg)/administration to max 30 mg/kg.

Special Precautions
Use suitable analgesic oral treatment as soon as this route of administration is possible. Risk of very serious liver damage w/ doses higher than the recommended dose. Hepatocellular insufficiency, severe renal insufficiency (CrCl ≤30 mL/min), chronic alcoholism, chronic malnutrition (low reserves of hepatic glutathione), dehydration. Frequent use (defined as most days or daily use) in late pregnancy may be associated w/ increased risk of persistent wheezing in infant. No safety & efficacy data available for premature neonates.

Adverse Reactions
Skin eruption, hematological toxicity eg, thrombocytopenia & leucopenia, methemoglobinemia which can result in cyanosis, & renal damage (long-term use).

Drug Interactions
Reduced clearance w/ probenecid. Prolonged elimination t1/2 w/ salicylamide. Caution w/ concomitant intake of enzyme-inducing substances. Concomitant use of paracetamol (4 g daily for at least 4 days) w/ oral anticoagulants may lead to slight variation of INR values.
