Ambroxol HCl
Indications/Uses
Management of acute & chronic resp tract disease associated w/ abnormal bronchial secretions & impaired mucus transport particularly chronic bronchitis, asthmatic bronchitis & bronchial asthma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Syr Adult & childn >12 yr 10 mL (2 tsp) every 8 hr); childn 7-12 yr 5 mL every 8-12 hr, 3-6 yr 2.5 mL every 8 hr, 1-2 yr 2.5 mL every 12 hr. Oral drops Infant 1-2 yr 1.25 mL every 12 hr, 7-12 mth 1 mL every 12 hr, ≤6 mth 0.5 mL every 12 hr.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Best taken after meals.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if new skin or mucosal lesions occur. Concomitant use w/ other medicines for cough, cold & allergy. Kidney or liver impairment. Not recommended during 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Breastfeeding.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylactic reactions including anaphylactic shock, angioedema, pruritus, rash, urticaria & other hypersensitivity reactions, severe allergic reactions, SJS & TENS. Abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, heartburn, nausea, vomiting. Dysgeusia. Dry throat, oral & pharyngeal hypoesthesia. Dry mouth.
Drug Interactions
Higher antibiotic conc in bronchopulmonary secretions & in sputum w/ amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin.
