Clobetasol propionate
Indications/Uses
Short courses treatment of more resistant dermatoses eg, psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis), recalcitrant eczemas & other conditions which do not respond satisfactorily to less active steroids.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply a small quantity to the affected area once daily or bid until improvement occurs. Not to be continued for >2 or 4 wk w/o reviewing patient's condition.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, perianal & genital pruritus. Primary cutaneous viral infections (eg, herpes simplex, chickenpox). Dermatoses in childn <1 yr including dermatitis & napkin eruptions.
Special Precautions
Avoid long-term therapy, particularly in infants & childn. The face may exhibit atrophic changes after prolonged treatment. Avoid from entering the eye if applied to the eyelids. May be hazardous in psoriasis. Use appropriate antimicrobial therapy whenever treating infected inflammatory lesions which have become infected. Not to be used extensively in pregnancy ie, in large amounts or for prolonged periods. Review treatment wkly if used in childn. Infant's napkin may act as occlusive dressing.
Adverse Reactions
Skin atrophy especially w/ occlusion or in skin folds; hypercorticism; transient pituitary-adrenal suppression; hypersensitivity.
