Miconazole nitrate
Indications/Uses
Skin infections due to dermatophytes or yeasts, & other fungi eg, tinea capitis, corporis, manuum, barbae, cruris, pedis (athlete's foot). Mycoses secondarily infected w/ gm +ve bacteria (eg, napkin dermatitis).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply to the lesions bid. Continue treatment at least 1 wk after disappearance of all signs & symptoms.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to miconazole or other imidazole derivatives.
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment if a reaction suggesting sensitivity or irritation occurs. Must not come into contact w/ the eyes. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Skin burning sensation, inflammation or hypopigmentation; application site irritation, burning, pruritus, reaction or warmth.
Drug Interactions
Monitor anticoagulant effect in patients on oral anticoagulants. Can increase effects & side effects of other drugs (eg, oral hypoglycemics & phenytoin).
