Indications/Uses
As adjunct in the treatment of partial seizures w/ or w/o secondary generalization. Generalized anxiety disorder, neuropathic pain, & fibromyalgia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Epilepsy 150 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses, increased after 1 wk according to response to 300 mg daily & then to 600 mg daily after another wk. Generalized anxiety disorder Initially 150 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses, may be increased at wkly intervals in steps of 150 mg, to max of 600 mg daily. Neuropathic pain Initially 150 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses, increased after 3-7 days to 300 mg daily & then to 600 mg daily after another 7 days. Max daily dose of 300 mg is recommended in diabetic neuropathy. Fibromyalgia Initially 150 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses, increased after 1 wk according to response to 300 mg daily & then to 450 mg daily if necessary
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Gradual w/drawal of therapy in epilepsy or transitioning to or from another type of antiepileptic therapy to avoid precipitating increase in seizure frequency.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness & somnolence. Blurred vision, diplopia, increased appetite & wt gain, dry mouth, constipation, vomiting, flatulence, euphoria, confusion, reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, irritability, vertigo, ataxia, tremor, dysarthria, paraesthesia, fatigue, & oedema; disturbances of attention, memory, coordination, & gait.
