Contents
Inactivated rabies virus (derived from strain Flury LEP) vaccine
Indications/Uses
Active immunization against rabies (pre- & post-exposure prophylaxis).
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Pre-exposure prophylaxis 1 mL on days 0, 7 & 21 or 28. Post-exposure prophylaxis 1 mL on days 0, 3, 7, 14, 28 (5-dose schedule) + human rabies Ig or equine rabies Ig simultaneously w/ the 1st dose of ChiroRab. Intradermal Pre-exposure prophylaxis 0.1 mL on days 0, 7 & 21 or 28. Post-exposure prophylaxis 2 doses of 0.1 mL on days 0, 3, 7, 28 + human rabies Ig or equine rabies Ig simultaneously w/ the 1st dose of ChiroRab.
Contraindications
Pre-exposure prophylaxis: Hypersensitivity. Avoid in individuals w/ acute disorders requiring treatment. If complications arise after vaccination, this should be considered a contraindication for further administration of the same vaccine, until causes of the complications have been clarified.
Special Precautions
Do not administer by intravascular inj. Closely monitor patients w/ hypersensitivity to chicken protein. Contains polygeline & may contain residual amounts of amphotericin B, chlortetracycline, & neomycin that could potentially cause allergic reactions. In patients w/ known hypersensitivity to constituents of the vaccine receiving post-exposure treatment, appropriate medical treatment addressing anaphylactic shock should always be on-hand during vaccination. Do not mix vaccine w/ rabies Ig in the same syringe.
Adverse Reactions
Mild reactions at inj site eg, pain, redness, swelling or induration. Local reactions, fever, headache, myalgia, lymph node swelling, fatigue, arthritis, & GI disorders.
