Bilastine
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (seasonal & perennial) & urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent ≥12 yr 20 mg once daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after intake of food or fruit juice.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Avoid co-administration w/ P-gp inhibitors eg, ketoconazole, erythromycin, cyclosporine, ritonavir or diltiazem in patients w/ moderate or severe renal impairment. Advise patient not to drive or use machines until response to bilastine is established. Preferable to avoid use during pregnancy. Continue/discontinue breastfeeding or discontinue/abstain from therapy. Not to be used in childn <6 yr & <20 kg.
Adverse Reactions
Headache. Adult & adolescent 12-17 yr: Somnolence, dizziness; fatigue. Childn 2-11 yr: Rhinitis; allergic conjunctivitis; abdominal pain/upper abdominal pain.
Drug Interactions
Reduced oral bioavailability w/ food. Decreased bioavailability w/ grapefruit juice; may also apply to other fruit juices. Potential decreased plasma conc w/ medicinal products that are substrates or inhibitors of OATP1A2 eg, ritonavir or rifampicin. Increased AUC & Cmax w/ ketoconazole or erythromycin. Potential increased plasma conc w/ P-gp substrates or inhibitors eg, cyclosporine. Increased Cmax w/ diltiazem.
