Contents
Phenylephrine HCl 10 mg, chlorphenamine maleate 2 mg, paracetamol 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Relief of clogged & runny nose, cough from postnasal drip, itchy & watery eyes, sneezing, headache, sore throat, body aches, & fever associated w/ common cold, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, flu, & other minor resp tract infections. Helps decongest sinus openings & passages & protect resp cells against common cold & flu viruses.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 1 tab every 6 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be given w/ food or milk if stomach upset occurs.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. High BP, severe heart disease; anemia, kidney or liver disease. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
High BP or any type of heart problems; glaucoma; thyroid problems; diabetes; enlarged prostate, bladder problems or difficulty urinating. May impair ability to drive & operate machinery. Paracetamol: Severe liver damage.
Adverse Reactions
Insomnia/sleeplessness; nervousness; increased/decreased BP; tremor. Phenylephrine HCl: Anxiety, nervousness, dizziness, restlessness, arrhythmia, palpitation; pallor; resp distress; weakness. Chlorphenamine maleate: Facial dyskinesia, faintness, headache, paresthesia, blurred vision, diplopia, visual disturbance; acute labyrinthitis, tinnitus, vertigo; chest tightness; thickening of bronchial secretions, nasal stuffiness, wheezing; constipation, diarrhea, GI discomfort, nausea, vomiting; muscle weakness; difficulty urinating; early menses, impotence; chills, dryness of the mouth, nose, & throat; irritability, sweating. Paracetamol: Change in number of WBC & platelets; allergic reactions which may cause difficulty in breathing, skin rash, angioedema; minor stomach & intestinal disturbances, rare cases of serious skin reactions.
Drug Interactions
Hypertensive crisis w/ MAOIs (eg, selegiline, moclobemide) & tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline, imipramine). Possibility for increased toxicity w/ sympathomimetic agents (eg, epinephrine) & general anesth (eg, halothane). Phenylephrine: Decreased effect w/ α-adrenergic blocking agent (eg, phenothiazine drugs, phentolamine). Increased BP w/ β-adrenergic blocking agents (eg, propranolol) & methyldopa. May potentiate drowsiness w/ anxiolytics (eg, alprazolam, diazepam) & hypnotics (eg, zolpidem). Paracetamol: Accelerated absorption w/ metoclopramide or domperidone; reduced absorption w/ cholestyramine. May increase liver toxicity w/ phenobarb, phenytoin. Increased risk of bleeding w/ warfarin.
