Methyl salicylate, menthol.
Description
Each 100 g of cream contains Methyl salicylate, USP 11.0 g, Menthol, USP 5.6 g.
Methyl Salicylate + Menthol (Begesic) is a topically-applied pain-relieving cream that is greaseless, non-staining, and pleasant smelling. Applied on the skin, it produces a warm sensation. Methyl Salicylate + Menthol (Begesic) is hypo-allergenic and extremely soothing. Methyl Salicylate + Menthol (Begesic) is a white cream.
Action
Topical Analgesic.
It contains Methyl salicylate and Menthol which work by causing the skin to feel cool and warm. Known as counterirritants.
Indications/Uses
For the relief of sores, aches, strained muscles, minor arthritis and stiffness.
Dosage/Direction for Use
How much and how often should the patient use this medicine: Apply generously on the affected area, 2 to 3 times daily or whenever necessary.
What should the patient do if they miss a dose: Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
What to do when the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage: If the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage, consult a physician or pharmacist, the patient should stop Methyl salicylate + Menthol (Begesic) cream.
If the patient accidentally swallows the cream, contact the doctor or hospital immediately.
Overdosage
Signs and symptoms of overdose: The signs and symptoms of Methyl salicylate overdose are the following: Tinnitus; Diarrhea; Difficulty in hearing; Dizziness; Nausea; Sweating; Headache; Mental Confusion.
Contraindications
When should the patient not take this medicine: If the patient is allergic to Methyl salicylate and Menthol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Special Precautions
Care that should be taken when taking medicine: When using other drugs for anticoagulants.
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding.
If the patient has asthma.
Avoid eye area contact. If this occurs accidentally wash away with plenty of clean water.
Do not apply to abrasion or open wound, mucous areas, broken or irritated skin.
Do not use hot compression to the affected area to which it is applied.
Do not bandage tightly.
Do not swallow.
Use in Children: Methyl salicylate + Menthol (Begesic) is not intended for use under 2 years or consult the physician.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Care that should be taken when taking medicine: If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding.
Adverse Reactions
If Methyl Salicylate + Menthol (Begesic) cream is topically applied a large amount, it might cause a mild salicylism.
It might cause skin irritation in sensitive skin patients.
When should the patient consult a doctor: If any undesirable effect occurs.
Drug Interactions
What other medicine or food should be avoided when taking this medicine: Aspirin; Warfarin; Ibuprofen; Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS).
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
