Contents
Per 5 mL Guaifenesin 100 mg, bromhexine HCl 4 mg
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of productive cough. Helps loosen phlegm & thin bronchial secretions to make coughs more productive.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 10-15 mL or 2-3 tsp at least every 6 hr. Max: Not to exceed 60 mL in 24 hr, 6-12 yr 5-10 mL or 1-2 tsp at least every 6 hr. Max: Not to exceed 30 mL in 24 hr, 4-6 yr 2.5-5 mL or ½-1 tsp at least every 6 hr. Max: Not to exceed 15 mL in 24 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity or anaphylactic reaction to bromhexine, ambroxol, guaifenesin.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use at 1st appearance of skin rash (sometimes associated w/ blisters or mucosal lesions) or any other sign of hypersensitivity. Not to be used for persistent or chronic cough (eg, cough occurring w/ asthma), or where cough is accompanied by excessive secretions. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn <4 yr.
Drug Interactions
Bromhexine: Increased bronchial penetration of antimicrobial drugs eg, erythromycin, amoxicillin, cefixime & ofloxacin.
