Indications/Uses
Prevention & therapy of damages due to faulty or deficient protein metabolism in chronic renal insufficiency in connection w/ limited protein food of ≤40 g/day (adult).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypercalcemia. Disturbed amino acid metabolism.
Special Precautions
Administer as long as GFR <25 mL/min & dietary protein restricted to ≤40 g/day (adult). No experience in pregnancy, lactation, & childn.
Drug Interactions
May cause or aggravate elevated serum Ca levels w/ Ca-containing drugs. Disturbed absorption w/ drugs that form hardly soluble compd w/ Ca eg, tetracyclines, quinolones (eg, ciprofloxacin & norfloxacin) as well as drugs containing Fe, fluoride or estramustine. Increased susceptibility to cardioactive glycosides & risk for arrhythmia in case of elevated serum Ca levels. Reduce dose of Al hydroxide, if necessary, as uremic symptoms improve during therapy.
