Evaluation for Respone
Check adult victim’s responsiveness
- Rescuer should ensure that the scene is safe & immediately check for response
- Quickly assess for responsiveness by gently tapping the victim on the shoulders & asking loudly “are you alright?”
- Assume cardiac arrest if there is unresponsiveness, abnormal breathing (ie gasping) or absence of breathing
- Brief, generalized seizures may be the initial presentation of cardiac arrest
- Assessment should take no longer than 10 sec
