Contents
Per g rectal oint Lidocaine 50 mg, hydrocortisone acetate 2.5 mg. Per supp Lidocaine 60 mg, hydrocortisone acetate 5 mg
Indications/Uses
Pain, itching & discomfort arising from irritated anorectal tissues eg, haemorrhoids, pruritus ani, proctitis, milder forms of anal fissures, post-op pain relief. Supp: In preference to oint for proctitis or internal haemorrhoids.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Oint Apply thin layer several times daily. Max: 6 g daily. Duration: Between 10 days & 3 wk. Supp Insert 1 supp morning & evening & as required after each defecation, insert few min before if painful defecation. Max: 5 supp daily. Duration: Not to exceed 3 wk.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if irritation or rectal bleeding occurs. Not be used w/o concomitant causal therapy in infections caused by viruses, bacteria, pathogenic fungi or parasites. Porphyria. Avoid contact w/ eyes. Prolonged & high-dose use. Concomitant use w/ class III antiarrhythmic drugs eg, amiodarone. Pregnancy & lactation. Oint: May cause local skin reactions due to cetyl & stearyl alcohol.
Drug Interactions
Additive cardiac effects w/ class III antiarrhythmic drugs eg, amiodarone. Potentially toxic plasma conc w/ drugs inhibiting lidocaine metabolism eg, cimetidine or β-blockers. Concomitant use w/ dental inj & other local anaesth, amide-type local anaesth ie, class III antiarrhythmic drugs eg, mexiletine.
