Per 0.5 mL Measles virus Enders' Edmonston strain (live, attenuated) not <3 log10 TCID50, mumps virus Jeryl Lynn (B level) strain 4.3 log10 TCID50, rubella virus Wistar RA 27/3 strain (live, attenuated) 3 log10 TCID50, varicella virus Oka/Merck strain min of 3.99 log10 PFU
Indications/Uses
Vaccination against MMR & varicella in individuals 12 mth-12 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to vaccine including gelatin; anaphylactoid reaction to neomycin. Blood dyscrasias, leukemia, lymphomas or other malignant neoplasms affecting bone marrow or lymphatic system. Immunosuppressive therapy eg, high-dose corticosteroids. Primary & acquired immunodeficiency states eg, AIDS or other clinical manifestations of HIV infection; cellular immune deficiencies; hypo- & dysgammaglobulinemic states. Severely immunocompromised individuals inadvertently vaccinated w/ measles-containing vaccine. Family history of congenital or hereditary immunodeficiency. Active untreated TB; active febrile illness w/ fever >38.5°C. Pregnancy; avoid pregnancy for 3 mth following vaccination.
Special Precautions
Not to be inj intravascularly. History of anaphylactic, anaphylactoid or other immediate reactions subsequent to egg ingestion. Patients w/ individual or family history of convulsions, history of cerebral injury or other condition in which stress due to fever should be avoided. Thrombocytopenia; post-exposure prophylaxis. Avoid close association w/ high-risk individuals eg, immunocompromised, pregnant women & newborn infants w/o documented +ve history of varicella or lab evidence of prior infection for up to 6 wk following vaccination. Monitor temp elevation following vaccination. Temporary depression of tuberculin skin sensitivity. HIV-infected w/ or w/o immunosuppression. Not to be given w/ Ig or varicella-zoster Ig. Avoid pregnancy for 3 mth following vaccination in women of childbearing potential. Not to be used during pregnancy. Lactation. Not recommended in infants <12 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Fever ≥38.9°C, inj site erythema, pain/tenderness/soreness. Upper resp infection; irritability; diarrhea, vomiting; measles- & varicella-like rash, rash; inj site ecchymosis, swelling, rash.
Drug Interactions
Interfered immune response w/ Ig. Reye syndrome w/ salicylates; avoid use 6 wk after vaccination. Defer vaccination at least 3 mth following blood or plasma transfusions or Ig administration. Not to administer any Ig including varicella-zoster Ig for 1 mth after administration. At least 1 mth should elapse between M-M-R II & ProQuad; at least 3 mth should elapse between 2nd dose varicella-containing vaccine.
