Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of constipation in adults & childn from 6 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
10 g Adult & childn ≥8 yr 1-2 sachets daily. 4 g Childn from 4-8 yr 2-4 sachets daily, 1-4 yr 1-2 sachets daily, 6 mth-1 yr 1 sachet daily. Max duration: 3 mth.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Dissolve contents in 50 mL of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe inflammatory bowel disease (eg, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease), toxic megacolon, digestive perforation or risk of perforation, ileus or suspicion of intestinal obstruction or symptomatic stenosis, painful abdominal syndromes of indeterminate cause.
Special Precautions
Rule out organic disorder prior to initiation. Hypersensitivity reactions & bronchospasm. Impaired gag reflex, regurgitation- or aspiration-prone patients. Patients w/ swallowing difficulties requiring thickener. Elderly or patients w/ hepatic/renal impairment or taking diuretics/electrolyte control.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, diarrhoea. Adults: Abdominal distention, nausea.
Drug Interactions
Decreased efficacy of medicinal products w/ narrow therapeutic index or short t½ eg, digoxin, anti-epileptics, coumarins, immunosuppressive agents. Potential interactive effect w/ starch-based food thickeners.
