Flumetasone and Clioquinol are combined in this medicine.
Flumetasone + Clioquinol is used to treat inflammation of the external ear where an infection is suspected to be present.
Flumetasone is a moderately potent steroid. It helps relieve swelling, redness, and itching of the external ear. Clioquinol is an antibiotic and antifungal medicine that is used to treat bacterial or fungal infections.
Instil Flumetasone + Clioquinol ear drop solution into the affected ear(s) exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
To use the ear drop solution, follow these steps:
- Wash your hands with soap and water.
- Tilt your head or lie down on your side.
- Gently pull your upper ear up and back. Insert the nozzle into the affected ear and instil the required number of drops.
- Keep your head tilted or remain lying down for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Replace and tighten the cap of the bottle.
- Wash your hands after.
Do not allow the tip of the dropper of this medicine to touch your fingers, ears or any other surface. Recap the ear drop immediately after use. If the ear drop becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in your ears.
Avoid contact with your eyes. Rinse immediately with water if this medicine gets into your eyes. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.
Do not share your ear drops with anyone else.
The dose of Flumetasone + Clioquinol will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on the severity of your condition and your response to the medication.
Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens during treatment.
Use this medicine at regular intervals. Do not skip any doses. You must complete the entire course of Flumetasone + Clioquinol. If you don't, the infection will not be properly controlled.
Instil the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you often forget to instil your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not use Flumetasone + Clioquinol if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Flumetasone, Clioquinol, or any of its ingredients.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- skin infection caused by viruses e.g. cold sores, chickenpox, warts
- skin infection caused by tuberculosis (lung infection known as tuberculosis) or syphilis (a type of sexually transmitted disease [STD])
- perforated or ruptured eardrum
as Flumetasone + Clioquinol may not be suitable for you.
Do not give this medicine to children below 2 years old unless instructed by the doctor.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine to a child (aged 2 years and above) or the elderly. Children and elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects.
If you are going to have certain laboratory tests for thyroid function, inform your doctor that you are using Flumetasone + Clioquinol.
Using this medicine may cause staining or discolouration on your clothing or fabrics.
Avoid long-term continuous use of Flumetasone + Clioquinol.
Flumetasone + Clioquinol may cause any of the following side effects: burning sensation, irritation, itching, or rash in the application site, and staining on fingernails, hair, or skin.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
- rashes, breathlessness, swelling of the face, eyes or mouth
- changes in eyesight or blurred vision
- severe nausea, vomiting or dizziness, passing out, extreme tiredness, loss of appetite, weight loss, muscle weakness, mood changes
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking certain medicines for HIV infection (e.g. cobicistat, ritonavir).
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
