Contents
Per 5 mL Diphenhydramine HCl 14 mg, ammon Cl 135 mg
Indications/Uses
Expectorant for cough control due to colds or allergy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 5-10 mL every 4 or 6 hr (not to exceed 60 mL daily), childn 6-12 yr 2.5-5 mL every 4-6 hr (not to exceed 30 mL daily), 2-5 yr 2.5 mL every 4-6 hr (not to exceed 20 mL daily).
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take w/ full glass of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to diphenhydramine & other similar antihistamines. Not to be used in lower resp tract symptoms including asthma. Lactation. Newborn or premature infants.
Special Precautions
History of bronchial asthma, increased IOP, hyperthyroidism, CV disease or HTN, narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, prostatic hypertrophy & resp depression. Avoid alcoholic beverages. May affect ability to drive or use machines. Not to be used during pregnancy. Childn 2-6 yr; not to be used in childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
CNS effects eg, nervous drowsiness, headache & psychomotor impairment, paradoxical stimulation; anti-muscarinic effects eg, urinary retention, dry mouth, blurred vision, GI disturbances, thickened resp tract secretions.
Drug Interactions
Increased CNS depression w/ alcohol, tranquilizers, sedative-hypnotics, CNS depressants. Increased anticholinergic effects w/ MAOIs.
