Indications and Dosage
Topical/Cutaneous
Pruritus
Adult: As 10% cream or lotion: Apply and massage gently onto the affected area(s) 2-3 times daily until completely absorbed. May repeat application as necessary. Dosing recommendations may vary among individual products or between countries (refer to detailed local product guidelines).
Child: <3 years Apply once daily with medical supervision; ≥3 years Same as adult dose. Dosing and treatment recommendations may vary among individual products or between countries (refer to detailed local product guidelines).

Scabies
Adult: As 10% cream or lotion: Apply a thin layer and rub thoroughly into the entire body surface (excluding the face and the scalp). Apply once daily, preferably in the evening, for up to 3-5 days. Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute exudative dermatoses, primary irritation response to topical medications.
Special Precautions
Children. Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Significant: Local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis, irritation)
Immune system disorders: Hypersensitivity reaction.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Pruritus, eczema, erythema, rash; anogenital dermal ulcer, dermatitis, purpuric rash, or skin necrosis.
Patient Counseling Information
Avoid contact with the eyes, face, and mucous membranes. Do not apply on exudative wounds, acute, broken, or inflamed skin. Scabies therapy: Carefully treat areas between skin folds or creases (e.g. between fingers and toes, wrist or waist folds, armpits, cleft of buttocks).
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Crotamiton, a synthetic chloroformate salt, is an acaricide and antipruritic agent. The exact mechanism of action is unknown; however, it appears to act on the motor system of mites through inducing irreversible cessation of spontaneous movements. Its antipruritic action is mediated by histamine, serotonin, and protease-activated receptor 2 inhibition.
