Osteoporosis in people at risk of vit D insufficiency; reduces the risk of vertebral & hip fractures. Improvement of symptoms due to abnormal vit D metabolism in liver dysfunction or chronic renal failure. Oral drops: Vit D3 supplementation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap 1-2 softgel cap daily. Oral dropsAdult >18 yr 600 IU up to 4,000 IU daily. Childn 4-18 yr 800 IU daily up to 4,000 IU. Infant 0-3 yr 400 IU daily up to 1,000 IU.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypercalcaemia. Evidence of vit D toxicity.
Drug Interactions
Increased vit D requirements w/ antiepileptics eg, carbamazepine, phenobarb, phenytoin, primidone. Reduced efficacy w/ rifampicin, INH. Counteract effect w/ corticosteroids. Reduced absorption w/ cholestyramine, colestipol, mineral oil, orlistat. Digoxin or any cardiac glycoside.
