Contents
Amp 1: Thiamine HCl 100 mg, pyridoxine HCl 100 mg. Amp 2: Cyanocobalamin 5,000 mcg
Indications/Uses
Thiamine HCl, pyridoxine HCl, & cyanocobalamin deficiency in case of beri-beri, peripheral neuritis & neuralgia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Initial dose for severe cases: 1 pair amp given until acute symptoms subside. Follow-up therapy: 2-3 pairs amp/wk.
Special Precautions
Neuropathies w/ long-term intake (6-12 mth) of >50 mg mean daily dose of pyridoxine HCl. Monitor regularly patients under long-term treatment. Used only when PO & inj cannot be used or would not work. Not to be shared w/ others. Not a substitute for a proper diet. High doses of pyridoxine HCl eg, >600 mg daily may inhibit the production of breast milk.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity to thiamine HCl or cyanocobalamin eg, sweating, tachycardia (rapid heart beat), & skin reactions w/ itching & urticaria; shock; GI complaints (eg, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or abdominal pain); acne (high parenteral dose of Cyanocobalamin); inj site reactions.
Drug Interactions
Pyridoxine HCl: May reduce effect of L-dopa. Decreased efficacy w/ pyridoxine HCl-antagonist eg, INH, cycloserin, penicillamine, hydralazine. Thiamine HCl: Reduced blood level in long-term use w/ loop diuretics eg, furosemide.
