Pregabalin
Indications/Uses
Peripheral & central neuropathic pain in adults. Generalized anxiety disorders (GAD) in adults. Adjunct therapy in adults w/ partial seizure w/ or w/o secondary generalization.
Dosage/Direction for Use
150-600 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses. Neuropathic pain Initially 150 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses, can be increased to 300 mg daily after an interval of 3-7 days. May be further increased to a max of 600 mg daily after an additional 1 wk interval if needed. Epilepsy Initially 150 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses, can be increased to 300 mg daily after an interval of 7 days. GAD Initially 150 mg daily, can be increased to 300 mg daily after an interval of 1 wk. May increase dose to 450 mg for the next 1 wk. Max of 600 mg daily can be administered after an additional 1 wk interval.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ hereditary disorders of galactose intolerance, Lapp Lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption. Diabetic patients. Avoid abrupt w/drawal. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Patients w/ kidney disorders. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescents. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Neutropenia, increased appetite, anorexia, hypoglycemia, psychiatric disorders; hypersensitivity, allergic reactions; neurological & visual disorders; vertigo, hyperacusis; tachycardia, AV block stage 1, sinus tachycardia, bradycardia & arrhythmia, CHF; flushing, hypotension, HTN, peripheral coldness; resp, thorax & mediastinal disorders; GI disorders; skin & SC disorders; musculoskeletal & connective tissue disorders; dysuria, urine incontinence, oliguria, kidney failure, urinary retention; erectile dysfunction, delayed ejaculation, sexual dysfunction, amenorrhea, breast discharge, tenderness & hypertrophy, dysmenorrhea.
Drug Interactions
May increase the effect of ethanol & lorazepam. CNS depressants. Oxycodone.
