Why do I need this medicine?
Oxymetazoline is used to treat persistent redness of the face due to rosacea (skin flushing or blushing usually around your nose and cheeks).
How do I use this medicine?
Apply Oxymetazoline exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more often or over a larger area than instructed by your doctor.

This medicine is available as a cream in a tube or pump.

If you are using the cream in a tube, follow these steps:
  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Clean and dry your entire face before application.
  3. Rub the cream gently on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin until it disappears. Do not cover, wrap or bandage your face unless instructed by the doctor.
  4. Wash your hands after using.
  5. Replace the cap of the tube.
If you are using the cream in a pump, follow these steps:
  1. Wash your hands.
  2. If you are using the cream in a pump for the first time, prime the pump. Hold the pump upright and press down a few times until the cream is dispensed onto a tissue. Pump 3 more times onto the tissue and dispose the tissue afterwards.
  3. Press down the pump to dispense the required amount of cream onto your fingertip.
  4. Using your fingertip, gently apply the cream onto your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin until it disappears. Do not cover, wrap or bandage your face unless instructed by the doctor.
  5. Wash your hands after using.
  6. Replace the cap of the pump.
Avoid contact with the eyes or mouth. Rinse immediately with water if it gets into your eyes or mouth. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.

The dose of Oxymetazoline will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on your condition and your response to the medication.
What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose to make up for a missed dose.

If you often forget to apply your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • heart disease e.g. high blood pressure
  • scleroderma (an autoimmune disorder characterised by hardening and tightening of the skin)
  • narrowing or blockage of the blood vessels outside of the heart and brain causing poor blood circulation to the arms and legs
  • Sjogren's syndrome (an autoimmune disease which affects the glands that make tears and saliva)
  • increased pressure in the eye
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What side effects could I experience?
Oxymetazoline may cause any of the following side effects: worsening of facial lesions, and redness, itching or pain on the application site.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I use this with other medicines?
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
