Adult & childn ≥13 yrURTI 500 mg 24 hrly. Lower resp tract infection 500 mg 12 hrly. Skin & skin structure infection 250 mg 12 hrly or 500 mg 24 hrly. Childn 2-12 yrURTI 7.5 mg/kg 12 hrly. Childn 6 mth-12 yrOtitis media 15 mg/kg 12 hrly. Infection due to β-haemolytic strep to be given for at least 10 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
History of GI disorders especially colitis. Kidney function should be evaluated before & during treatment. Concomitant use w/ diuretics. Prolonged use may cause overgrowth of nonsusceptible microorganism. Discontinuation of treatment in occurence of superinfections. May cause false +ve result of urine glucose test by Fehling's, Benedict's soln & Clinitest tab. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain. Elevation of SGOT/SGPT, alkaline phosphatase & serum bilirubin. Hypersensitivity reactions. Elevation of BUN & serum creatinine. Headache, insomia, genital pruritus, vaginitis, dizziness, hyperactivity, superinfection.
