Infection due to susceptible strains of Staph, Strep & pneumococci in penicillin-allergic patients or where penicillin therapy is inappropriate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Severe infectionAdult 500 mg 3 times daily every 8 hr. Childn >1 mth 30 mg/kg daily in 3-4 divided doses. More severe infectionAdult 500 mg 4 times daily every 6 hr. Childn 60 mg/kg daily in 3-4 divided doses. β-hemolytic streptococcal infections Continue for at least 10 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to lincomycin or clindamycin. Newborn baby.
Special Precautions
Not for minor bacterial or viral infection treatment. History of asthma or significant allergy. GI disease especially colitis. Perform periodic liver & renal function & blood counts during prolonged therapy. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances; haematopoietic effects; pruritus, rash; jaundice; renal dysfunction; hypersensitivity.
